Infinite

Tanya Agha

It is nostalgia for a home I never lived in.
A place never mine -
a chair I never sat in.
It is desire for an illuminated future I cannot see.

It is in the days left behind and in the hours of those ahead.
In the difference of all that and all which is in between.

Standing here, soul and body, is my narrative, my claim.

Living this life, my life -
requires a cumulation of all time and all spaces.
Thousands of years of blood and survival and a culmination of all that,
In a single moment,
to create me.

It is the dust on the shelf.
It is the library of memories.
I carry the smiles of my grandparents' -
and the voices of those I have never heard.

I am blessed to feel as if I am arriving
yet constantly on a path to unknown glory.

My identity,
is everything in me -
and everything not me.
