Mama tell me please, How do we Protect Our Trees?
Maura Uyeda
Way up high in the eucalyptus trees, Kelly Koala awoke to a gentle breeze.
The sun came out, the sky turned blue, and , Kelly koala knew, just what she wanted to do.
I will ask mama, Please can we go, I want to see my new friend kangaroo, his name is Joe ?
Mama said , "wait, wait , but why the rush ?, You must have some breakfast leaves first
We don't have too much, as you know, just eat this little pile of leaves up , and then , we can go"
Kelly gave her mama a second glance then a important question she did then ask.
Mama mama , tell me please, why do we not have enough leaves?
"Kelly my love, I am sad to say, our world is changing, day by day.
Our trees get thirsty when there's not enough rain, Our trees can burn in the fires from the climate change.
Out trees can be chosen to be chopped down, when humans choose to build a town."
Kelly's koala eyes swelled with tears her heart began to fill with fear.
Kelly loved her cozy home with mama, the feeling of the morning breeze , and the warm sun rays, shining down in the eucalyptus trees,
And more importantly, Kelly loved, her breakfast, eating piles of fresh delicious leaves .
News such as this, made Kelly Koala sad, she never knew her lovely safe world was changing so fast.
A most important question she did then ask.
"But mama mama tell me please who can help us protect our trees?"
"Kelly my love, you are wise , clever, and sweet.
Our job now, and our important task, is to
tell our world, what we need for our forest to last"
Kelly koala looked at mama who was feeling sad, and Kelly too felt sad but not only did Kelly feel so sad, she became sort of mad. Her head and heart had filled with fear, then she began to worry if her home, would someday soon disappear.
She clenched her fist tight, and stuck out her chest and told her mama
"I know what is best !"
"Mama Mama, yes I'm wise , and clever, and sweet,
so this is how , I , can tell the world what we need.
I'll shout it out loud and very clear, for all around to surely hear"
"My trees are dying day by day, somebody please , find a way that they can stay.
These trees are my breakfast,
these trees are my home,
please don't destroy them and help them grow!"
Kelly koala climbed down from her tree, she began to march and shout out her plea.
She shouted to the neighbors, and shouted to all, she marched throughout the forest all day long.
"The trees are my breakfast, the trees are my home, please protect them help them grow !"
Not only did Kelly March and shout , she soon found her friend Joe hopping about. Kelly cried when Joe asked why she was sad. Kelly also told joe why she was mad, and why she will continue to shout out her important song for all to hear the whole day long.
Joe did not like to see his friend so sad, nor did he like to see his friend mad. Jo wanted to help , he was a kind lad.
Joe joined Kelly in her heartfelt march, a good friend he was right from the start. Together they shouted from deep in their heart. Their shouting was loud, they shouting was clear, they did their best for all the world hear. Day followed night and the forest began to look dark, it was now time for the friends to part.
Safely back in her Eucalyptus tree that night, snuggling close with her mom, Kelly koala became sleepy from marching all day long.
Kelly slept soundly through the night and dreamt of lush green Forrest's forever in sight. There were so many many, trees filled with many many delicious Eucalyptus leaves. Kelly loved the thought of never ever wanting more. It was the best dream ever, then she began to snore.
Way up high in the eucalyptus trees , Kelly Koaka was awakened the next morning by a gentle breeze.
The sun came out, the sky turned blue, and Kelly Koala knew just what to do.
Kelly ate some leaves, climbed down from the tree, and went to meet Joe to tell him of her lovely dream. He was such a good friend and such a kind lad .
Joe never wanted for Kelly to be sad. He reached out his hand to join her in the forest once more, to shout out her message, so it won't be ignored.
Hand in hand the friends marched out to the middle of the forest floor.
The strong voices of Kelly and Joe began once more, and this time people, and some animal friends, came to explore. They heard the message and wanted to know more.
They listened to the urgent need, and understood the reason for the heartfelt plead.
" Eucalyptus trees are dying day by day, please find a way to help them stay.
The trees are Koalas breakfast, the trees are Koalas home
Please protect them and help them grow"
For all my friends it is true, please continue to send Kelly's message and you can shout it out too! .
