Me (Allen Hu)
Allen Hu
Me
I am that trip to Mexico.
I am that kid, carefree, happy, optimistic.
I am Legos, bricks, and pieces.
I am cookies and creme ice cream and guava birthday cakes and squashed frozen sandwiches.
I am my fun-loving, talkative mom and my serious, mannerly dad.
I am my grandma, who thinks of money like a priceless treasure, and my grandpa, who's like a comedian.
I am memories new and old.
I was that kid, the bright, childish me,
the 5-year-old me in the backyard of my old house swinging a pickleball racket like a sword.
You might think I feel embarrassed by the stuff l used to do.
Absolutely not.
You were that kid; you still are that kid.
You've only grown older, taller, and heavier.
Those memories are a taste of youth.
They are a glimpse of who I am.
These are you, and they will always be you:
drops of rain collecting gravity.
