The smell of ozone and petrichor permits the air
And I know that I am no longer alone
For no matter how much I wallow and despair
I know that the old gods
The ones lost and forgotten
Have not forgotten us
They visit in flashes of lightning and thunder
In typhoons and floods
They visit us in massive unavoidable truths
But they also visit in a soft smile in the corner of your eye
And in a dollar on the ground when you are just short of change
They visit in gusts of wind that seems to envelope you, not dissimilar to a hug
So that we may know that while they bring us hardship
That they still love their mortal companions
So when the smell of the sky and the earth fills my nose
And a gust of wind ruffles my hair
I know that I am not alone
And I find no fault or quarry with that fact
Instead I smile into the wind and know of things far greater than I
