Dirty dishes in the sink

One shifts, another sinks
A cup seems to smile, then wink

Drips, plips, plops
Cutting board flops.
Makes a splash, sinks down

Under the water, forks and spoons swim.
Cups float, sunk to the rim.

A bowl, filled to the edge, tips, spills.
Crumbs wash down the drain in the flood,
Mashed potatoes washed down like mud

Clatter, clatter, clatter, clink
Dirty dishes in the sink,
Familiar sounds, a burble, a splash,
Calm the room, make it all okay.
