Righting The Wrong in Me
Victoria Coverson-Baxter
I am a woman of wonder. I stand in amazement of his presences. Not long ago, I was walking in shame of my race. I am no longer afraid of who I am.
I see a future of promise. A future of hope. I see a leader, a great leader for people of color.
I smell triumph! I sense opportunity. A chance for a better life. I anticipate a fresh, newness of life!
I feel strong, creative and beautiful. Hopeful that I will no longer be judged by the color of my skin.
My children will have a better life. A better life than mine-I am convinced! Doors once closed will soon open wide.
I still want to be like him. He gives me the courage to stand; even if I am standing alone. I desire peace deep down in my soul so I can taste it. I want a chance to right the wrong in me and bring to light those things that are hidden.
I fear for his life. How can someone so quietly powerful with words, be left alone? I fear this all may be just a dream and soon I will awaken.
I am a woman. A courageous woman and a strong woman. I am black and I am beautiful.
