Prologue
Once upon a time in a large orchard full of oak trees, there lived a squirrel named Sunny. Sunny's family decided to settle there because there were many acorns for them to feast on. Sunny was born in the orchard and when she grew up to be 12, she decided that she would pick some acorns every Autumn to provide for her family. One September, when the weather became chilly and crispy leaves blew swiftly in the wind, she did as she had planned and got quite a few acorns. She stashed the acorns in a hidden burrow so her family could feast on them in the winter. Each year, she did the same exact routine until...

Chapter 1: Getting Ready for Winter
Just like she did every Autumn, Sunny Squirrel was getting nuts to prepare for winter. The air was crisp and cold but she didn't mind because she had a silky fur coat to keep her warm. She swiftly climbed up a tree, and to her surprise she found no acorns. "Oh well, I guess I need to look in another tree," she sighed. She kept looking from tree to tree in the same way, but discovered that there were no more acorns. "What should I do?" she thought. Where did all the nuts go?

What happened to all the acorns? Did another squirrel grab them or did they somehow decay?

Disappointed, Sunny returned home in the evening with no acorns. Immediately her mom realized that Sunny was sad and found that Sunny had returned home with empty paws, which she never had before. She rushed over to Sunny and told her, "Don't give up, just go out there and try again! You'll surely find some more acorns tomorrow." The next day, Sunny returned to the tree outside her burrow, determined to find more.

Chapter 2: Meeting Luna
Despite her mom's encouragement, bad thoughts suddenly filled her head. She feared that her family would punish her for not finding any acorns. Worse, they would lose their confidence in her and she would never be trusted to collect acorns for her family again.
She felt so distraught at the thought and began to wail.
She clinged to the tree, desperately wishing for acorns to appear. Unknown to her, another squirrel was skillfully climbing a nearby tree. Her name was Luna and she had been gathering acorns since Spring. She heard wailing and saw Sunny. She jumped and almost fell off the branch, but luckily landed right next to Sunny. Kindly, she asked, "What's the matter?"
"There aren't any more acorns," Sunny wailed.
"Don't worry," Luna said, "Come with me. My name is Luna and I live nearby in this orchard."
Sunny sniffled and whimpered, "I'm Sunny."
"I'll take you to my burrow," offered Luna.
"Oh...oh...okay," Sunny said tearfully.
"Let's go," said Luna.
"Wait!" Sunny exclaimed, "I need to get permission from my family. Is it okay if I take some of your acorns to give to my parents?"
"Of course," Luna said. She handed Sunny three pawfuls of acorns to take to her family.

Sunny scampered off to her parents' house and asked her mom for permission to go to her new friend's house. She gave the three pawfuls of acorns to her parents. Her mom gasped and asked where she got so many acorns.

"My friend Luna gave them to me. She is the squirrel who invited me for a sleepover," said Sunny.
"Of course you can go, as long as you promise that you will always work together with Luna to collect acorns early so that we can get all of the acorns we need. We can even connect our burrows so that we will all be together," said her mom.
"I promise!" said Sunny.

Sunny rushed back to Luna and exclaimed, "My mom said yes! I can come to your home. I promised her that we'll hunt for acorns early every year. We can work together and even connect our burrows."

Luna said, "Great! I'll do exactly that. Now, let's go before it gets dark and the owls come out."

So they went along to Luna's burrow and lived happily ever after.

Epilogue
In Luna's burrow, they slept for the entire season to hibernate. When Spring came, they awoke to have many more adventures together while picking acorns as they had promised in Autumn.
