The Golden Carrot
Shayana Subramanian
Chapter 1
Once, there was a little white bunny named Nibbles. When she was four years old, her colony faced a great starvation. She wanted to help the colony but didn't know how. Then, an idea struck her. She remembered that when she was two months old, her mother told her stories about the "golden carrot." According to the legend, when someone trustworthy found the golden carrot, the carrot would help them or their colony. So, she gathered her friend Jumper and went on a quest to find the "golden carrot."
Chapter 2
Jumper didn't know where they were going so she asked, "where are we going?" Nibbles replied, "to find the golden carrot. It's the only way our colony will survive." Then she said, "we will be going through the murky swamp lands, across the open prairie lands, and stop somewhere in the middle of the green forest. That will be where the golden carrot rests!" "Um, Nibbles," Jumper said quietly, "that sounds like a long way to walk. Maybe we should make a type of vehicle instead." So, working together, they made a small carriage. They used the strong wood from a tree that a hunter had forgotten for the base. Then they used the small circular wood pieces a beaver had chewed on. They connected all of this together with the sticky sap from a maple tree. And soon, they were good to go!
Chapter 3
The two friends soon reached the murky swamp lands. "It smells horrible here!" exclaimed Nibbles. She kept walking. She jumped into a little pond. However, she soon discovered that there was quicksand at the bottom. "Help!", she cried, "I'm stuck!" "Stay calm!" Jumper shouted. "If you stay calm, you won't drown quickly! "Okay!" Nibbles shouted back. "Grab on to this vine I found!" Jumper said. Since she had no other choice, she immediately grabbed on. "Thank you, Jumper" she said. "That was close," said Jumper. "Yeah, but on the bright side our vehicle is safe, and the prairie is close by!" said Nibbles as they hopped into the carriage.
Chapter 4
While they were in the prairie, Jumper got hungry. "Look over there, it's a whole grove of carrots and lettuce!" said Nibbles. "Someone forgot about their farm, so it's all for us!" she said. So, they ate a delicious meal and loaded the rest of the veggies into the empty space in their carriage. "Brrrrrr, it is so cold in the night!" said Nibbles chattering, a few hours later. "Speaking of night, we need a place to stay for the night, and we haven't eaten dinner yet!" Jumper complained. "Ooh, we can stay in the abandoned den of a prairie dog" suggested Nibbles. "There is also plenty of veggies in the carriage. I brought a bottle of olive oil, so we can have veggies-in-oil for dinner." They stayed in the burrow until morning, However, just as they came out, an eagle swooped down and managed to take Jumper away. "Nibbles, help!" she cried. Nibbles did some quick thinking and threw a rock at the eagle. The eagle fell down in pain and Jumper escaped. They quickly hopped into the carriage and went into the forest.
Chapter 5
"We are almost there," said Nibbles. "Nibbles, how are we going to get across the big pond? There is no rope bridge to go on," said Jumper. "Hmmm, I can use those vines to swing across the pond. Then, I can use the bamboo on the other side to make a bridge, and you can ride the vehicle across," planned Nibbles. Her plan worked and before they could turn around, a voice said something to the bunnies. "You are brave and honest. Go home. Your colony will no longer face starvation," it said. It was the one and only "golden carrot".
