The Land Bridge
Rahil Ali
The tribe of humans stood in awe, small, sharp, shards of ice surrounded them. Adults and children had their mouths agape as they stared at it. The long, horizontal, rock formation, which jutted out across the ocean. No one could even try to guess how far it spanned. They were able to see it for the first time, due to the glaciers finally melting. They inspected the rock, ensuring that it wasn't brittle. Then, they began to carefully walk across it. A young boy looked behind his shoulders, giving the landscape of Asia one last solemn glare. Asia had been ravaged by the Ice Age, becoming a barely habitable husk. People could no longer establish settlements, or farm crops on the fertile land, while curiously interacting with other creatures. A decades-long cycle. Now, all of them were trekking forward, hoping what lay on the other side was a better future. One where they could continue the cycle.
