Uma, Annie, Cleo, Jimmy, Celina and Elen were all friends. They went to the same school called "Friendship Academy". Most days, they all played together. Uma, Elen, Cleo and Annie had been best friends for a long time. Celina was new to school and Jimmy was new to the friend group. Sometimes the four friends ran ahead and forgot to wait for the new friends, but Elen always turned around and got them. Jimmy and Celina never said anything but sometimes they felt left out.
One day, on a school trip the whole class went to the museum. The six friends were walking together when suddenly Uma saw a shiny wristband at the back of the museum. The wristband was in a glass case on top of a pedestal. The glass case was locked. She got so excited and yelled to her friends: "Hey, come look at this sparkly wristband". The friends walked closer. It was shiny and sparkly and very beautiful. And right next to it there was a sign that said: "NO TOUCHING".
Jimmy was staring at the wristband for a while and he said loudly: "I WANT IT". Uma said: "No, Jimmy. Look at the sign". But Jimmy saw there was a key in the keyhole. He reached for it, turned the key, and the glass case fell open. The wristband began shining with six bright rainbow colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. The friends were looking at the bright light and their eyes went swirly, and one by one they got hypnotized. Jimmy suddenly said, "I hate you guys" and Uma responded: "I hate you too!"
Celina and Cleo were so hypnotized that they went to grab the wristband. They grabbed the wristband at the same time and suddenly the wristband broke in two. Cleo took one half of the wristband and Celina took the other half. The two wristbands looked almost identical, but Celina's half shone red, orange and yellow. And Cleo's half shone green, blue and purple. That is how the group of friends got split into two. On Cleo's side there were Uma and Annie and on Celina's team were Elen and Jimmy.  Uma, Cleo, and Annie called themselves Team Evil. Celina, Jimmy, and Elen became Team Wicked. Each team was so amazed by its half of the wristband that they didn't realize the museum visit was over. But after the teachers called for all the students to leave the museum something strange happened. Instead of going back to Friendship Academy, the students went back to a boarding school called "Wristband School". And the weird thing was none of the students realized that it was a different school, and they thought they always went to Wristband School. In this new school, each team had its own dorm room.
Team Evil and Team Wicked now believed their wristbands were the most important things they owned and they wanted to protect them forever. During the night they kept the wristband in a glass case in the middle of the room so everyone could see it. During the day they would take it to class and leave it on their desk so they could keep an eye on it.
As days went by, the group of six friends became mean to each other. One day Uma stole Elen's picture and called Celina a silly fake name. Another day, Cleo knocked over Jimmy's block tower and took the last green paper that Elen wanted even though Cleo already had some green paper. Celina hid Annie's eraser and laughed when Uma lost her pen. Jimmy wouldn't let Annie have a turn on the monkey bars, and Annie spilled water on Jimmy's homework. Elen pushed past Uma in line and kept a library book that Cleo wanted. They said mean things too, like your hair looks messy and your shoes are ugly!
They didn't see it, but every mean act made both wristbands shine a little less.
One day in class they had to do a book project together. The teacher had put all six in one group because they used to be good friends. But the project wasn't going well at all. Uma would draw a picture, and Elen would erase it. The book had to be turned in that same day, and it didn't look like it would get finished. Uma was a top student, and she didn't want to turn in a bad project, so she went to ask the teacher if they could switch teams. On her way, she saw Team Wicked's wristband. It wasn't shining anymore. It looked like a flashlight without batteries. She ran back to tell her team. Then she saw that their wristband was completely dark too.
For a second Uma forgot that they were not friends, and she yelled: "Annie, Cleo, Elen, Celina, Jimmy, look! None of the wristbands are glowing". Everyone ran over and looked at both wristbands. There was no light in them at all. They all felt sad, and right then the magic spell started to wear off.
Then the teacher came and asked how the book project was going. Uma said we are working on it. Then she turned to everybody and said, we don't have time to figure out the wristband, we need to finish our book. So that is what they did, and it was like the mean magic went away. Uma drew the pictures, Elen wrote the words, Jimmy made the cover, Annie and Celina colored, and Cleo checked the spelling. The book turned out really good, and they started laughing together too.
Suddenly Uma remembered the silly name she called Celina. She said: "Celina, I am sorry I was mean to you. You are a good friend, and I shouldn't have called you silly names". Celina remembered laughing when Uma lost her pen, and she said I am sorry too! Then they gave each other a big hug. Then Jimmy remembered the monkey bars. He said: "Annie, I am sorry I didn't share the playground with you". Annie smiled and said: "I am sorry I spilled water on your homework". Jimmy said it is okay!
Cleo and Elen said sorry too. Cleo was sorry for taking the last green paper that Elen wanted, and Elen was sorry for keeping the library book that Cleo wanted. After that, the kids went up and handed in their book.
After they came back to the table, Uma said now we need to figure out what is wrong with the wristbands. But Celina said: "Why? I didn't like it when we had wristbands. We were not friends anymore. Uma, I was new to school, and it made me so happy when I became friends with all of you. After we got the wristbands, I only talked to Jimmy and Elen. I missed you three. That made me really sad, and I did mean things. I don't like having wristbands anymore."
Jimmy also said: "Even though I am not new to school, it made me so happy when I had five friends who I played with most of the time. Sometimes the four of you ran ahead and forgot about us but Elen came back to get us. But even that was much better than when we had the wristbands and we never got to play together". The other friends were looking at them and were listening with their listening ears. They finally understood. The wristbands didn't make them happier, playing with friends did.
Uma said: "you are right. I don't care about fixing the wristbands anymore, but we did a bad thing by stealing it and we should go to the museum and return the two wristbands and apologize". They all agreed, when Uma picked up the two halves, all six colors began to shine. The rainbow colors swirled together, and the two wristbands magically became one again.
The friends looked at each other with surprise. The wristband was shiny and sparkly again, but they knew they had to return it. They all ran to the museum. In the museum, they just saw an empty glass case, no one was around, so they returned the wristband to the empty glass case on top of the pedestal. They also wrote a letter saying they were sorry and would never do it again.
As they were exiting the museum, something strange happened again... they were back on the playground of Friendship Academy. It was getting late and their parents were all waiting for them. They all ran to their parents but before leaving they promised they would all play with each other tomorrow.

The End.
