Wake Up Wood Frog
Aya Sadi
spring is here!
wake up, Wood Frog!
stop being frozen
under that soggy log
you were a popsicle
now your heart beats fast
winter's gone
it didn't last!
hop, hop, hop!
stretch your knees!
croak through puddles
and smell the breeze
all winter long
you slept so deep
wake your body
from frozen sleep
brown and gold
yellow belly bright
monarchs are fluttering
come into the light!
time to thaw
and time to play
ribbit, ribbit, ribbit!
you have a lot to say
little birds are singing
young foxes run
poppies are blooming
in the warm spring sun
honeybees are buzzing
the skies are blue
spring is back
and so are you!
