Amanda began considering leaving her family's home when she was 14 and living through devastating floods that year. Amanda was overwhelmed with worry until, by chance, she and her family received an invitation from the United States Government's program to assist those fleeing poverty. Amanda was overjoyed at having this chance but quickly felt betrayed when learning that all quota slots had already been filled; feeling stuck, she eventually accepted fate by helping out wherever necessary, but longing to explore further was always present within.

Things were far from easy for Amanda and her family, yet she worked diligently to help ensure they made ends meet. One day, when receiving mail was seemingly routine, Amanda discovered she was chosen among just seven individuals to enter America after having lived abroad for the previous seven years - her excitement knew no bounds as she quickly packed what belongings she owned before preparing to depart her only known home of ten years. 

Overcoming with mixed feelings as Amanda bid farewell to her loved ones on the docks, eagerly embarking on her new journey yet feeling that something important had passed her by. Once aboard the ship, Amanda watched its departure as memories from all she left behind started flooding back; waves lapped against the shore while saltwater pervaded the air; as she looked back upon this beach, she whispered silent thanksgivings for what lay ahead for her journey ahead.

The journey across the sea was an uncomfortable one for Amanda. Not accustomed to ocean conditions, she frequently felt queasy and seasick during their two-month-long voyage - spending most of her days hiding in her cabin away from passengers to contemplate the past and future. Finally, after two long months on board, the ship arrived safely at New York Port.

Although she had seen its shimmering skyscrapers before on television back home, seeing it for herself was different; she could feel its energy as people lived their daily lives amid such beauty, which gave Amanda both excitement and comfort.

Every time she discovered an unknown area or saw people of multiple nationalities living together harmoniously, it was truly astounding for Amanda, something she had not anticipated when arriving.

Amanda began her journey believing all her obstacles stemmed from poverty. Nevertheless, once in America, she understood she could make anything happen with hard work and determination - building herself an entirely new identity while seizing an opportunity to change the course of her life for good.

Soon enough, Amanda was employed as a customer service functionary at a local firm, quickly increasing her confidence and optimism while adapting to city life. Finding joy even in small things such as taking strolls down avenues or meeting like-minded individuals was something Amanda soon found herself looking forward to doing; homesickness became difficult, but opportunities presented themselves through America. Nonetheless, she often yearningly missed seeing family back at her old home again but had little desire to return there given all they would gain by remaining there; she decided instead that staying put her back into America rather than heading home again.

Amanda would keep her family updated about every facet of her new life through letters. After working tirelessly and saving enough money, Amanda finally brought over her family members, who now reside happily here in America.

Amanda's journey was one of remarkable courage. She believed in herself and was willing to take risks for the greater good, standing there watching waves wash over her and carrying her into this new land where she and her family could finally start new lives together.
